Samarès Manor (Jèrriais: Mangni d’Sanmathès) is a manor house with medieval origins in the Vingtaine de Samarès, in the parish of St. Clement in Jersey, and is the traditional home of the Seigneur de Samarès. The name Samarès is an old French word meaning salt-marsh, and much of the low-lying surrounding areas are or were coastal marshes.
The manor house is a H-plan building with a number of Tudor arched windows on the ground floor.
The round colombier is believed to be the oldest in Jersey and may date to as early as the 12th century.

Development of the gardens
These unique gardens, which have always offered exceptional planting conditions, were created in the 1920s by wealthy shipping line owner, Sir James Knott. In recent years they have undergone further development and diversification, and by creating new gardens and introducing unique plant collections.

The Herb Garden
One of the most spectacular in the British Isles.
The herb garden was the inspiration of garden designer John Brookes. Its design, which now incorporates the rose and lavender garden, can be best appreciated from the viewing platform. Culinary, fragrant, cosmetic and medicinal herbs are planted in large blocks within an abstract array of gravel paths. Herbs are for sale in the Manor’s Plant Centre.
