Samarès Manor - The Essence of Jersey
Herb Garden Café

The café, run by Ian Florence, is uniquely situated in the herb garden surrounded by roses, lavenders and other fragrant plants.
Throughout the day Ian serves hot and cold drinks, snacks and sandwiches, bistro style lunches, homemade cakes and Jersey Cream Teas. He specialises in the use of local Jersey produce and dishes flavoured and garnished with freshly cut herbs from the garden. On Sundays you can enjoy a traditional roast lunch (from 1.00pm to 4.00pm) and there is a children’s menu available throughout the week. Café specialities are updated daily - just follow the link below. The café has a licence so you can enjoy a glass of wine or a cool beer with your meal.

Catering for small daytime and evening functions for up to about fifty is available with the option of using the terrace or the cafés marquee. Ian is always pleased to quote for larger functions.

The Development of the Gardens
The Herb Garden - The most spectacular in the UK
These unique gardens were created in the nineteen twenties by millionaire shipping magnate and philanthropist, Sir James Knott, and in recent years they have undergone substantial restoration, diversification and development.

The gardens have always offered exceptional environmental conditions for growing an extensive range of plants, but now the onset of climate change brings with it further opportunities.
Samarès Manor’s herb garden, one of the most comprehensive in Europe, was the inspiration of internationally renowned garden designer and author, John Brookes. Its unique design can be best appreciated from the viewing platform high above the garden, adding an extra dimension to this unique collection of culinary, fragrant, cosmetic and medicinal plants.

Herbs are for sale in the Manor’s nursery.
